These are large pearls, most more than 10 millimetres in diameter, and they are harvested from silver lipped oysters cultivated in the coastal waters between Australia and Indonesia. In addition to the usual round pearls, some assume shapes such as drop. Silver is the most common colour, and a golden colour, found in gold-lipped oysters, is very popular.
